Japanese antique furniture wooden signboard for tea room "二六荘", wood carving Kanji calligraphy W26.4in/W67cm

This tea room sign has hand-carved kanji characters carved into very old wood. Old signs like this have been used in tea rooms, inns, and other places in Japan.
This sign was used in a tea room located inside an inn.
The characters "Niroku-sou" are carved from the numbers 2, 6, and the word "荘 sou" This last character is the name given to areas that were originally manors, but the word's etymology means a place where grass grows luxuriantly. It also has a solemn meaning, and has been used in tea rooms and other places.

The calligraphy carved into the wood is painted a dull pale green, and the name of the carver is engraved inscribed on it. The color and atmosphere have improved with age. There is also metal fittings on the back for hanging it on a wall.
