Dating to the 1910s, this Japanese bronze koro preserves kodō-style surface character and an incised underside inscription, and it shows an eggplant blossom motif carved into the body. Smoke exits through the stem area when used as a censer. The piece retains its original signed wooden box. At roughly 13 × 11 × 10 cm and 889 g, it combines ceremonial meaning with metal art presence.

* Era: 1910s metal censer

* Material: Bronze (patina craft casting)

* Dimensions: H 5.1 in × W 4.3 in × D 3.9 in (approx. The eggplant silhouette channels symbolic meaning—associated historically with wishes and bounty—while the carved blossom amplifies that theme. The bronze shows an aged, kodō-like patina consistent with long-term preservation, and the incised signature on the underside ties the object to its maker or previous owner. As a metal art sculpture, it reads well on a mantel, shelf, or altar where sculptural form and subtle surface color are visible.

Use and care

Use the koro with small amounts of loose incense or a charcoal tablet sized appropriately for the 13 cm height; smoke is intended to escape via the stem area. To preserve the patina, avoid abrasive cleaners and high-humidity storage; gently dust with a soft brush and, if needed, wipe with a barely damp cloth and dry immediately. The wooden box protects the piece for transport or storage.

Display suggestions

Position the censer as a minimalist table accent or within a meditation space where its compact size and quiet silhouette complement a zen display. It also functions as an Asian art relic for collectors who appreciate collectible pieces with provenance and original packaging.

Condition and provenance

Condition: Very good; ready to use.
