Fine Japanese vintage old hand made ceramic jar flower vase Shino ware White brown gradation Kanji signed 博民 with wood box H7.5in/H19cm.
These vases are beautiful just by being placed on display.
They are called 志野 Shino ware, and the variations in the glaze and clay colors never grow tiresome. There are also variations in the texture of the surface, allowing you to enjoy the natural colors and expressions.
The flowing gray glaze on the white base is beautiful.
The condition is good, and it comes in its original wooden box.
This piece was created by Hiromi Tabata (1941-). After studying syudei-yaki pottery in Tokoname, he studied under Shuntei Kato, a renowned potter in Seto. He is highly regarded in Japan. While preserving traditional Shino-yaki techniques, he also creates modern pieces with his own unique interpretation.
This ceramic is called “Shino” and is a type of “Mino-yaki” pottery made in what is now Gifu Prefecture during the Azuchi-Momoyama period of the 16th century, using white glaze. There are multiple types, such as Akashino and Shino, and the techniques used are designated as Important Intangible Cultural Properties.
