FINE! Japanese antique 1700s hanging scroll of water color painting by TOSA sect, a pair of cranes and pine tree with sign H68.5in/H174cm.
This is a beautiful hanging scroll with cranes and pine trees that is very old but in good condition.
It was painted in the Edo period. The signature is written as 藤原光貞 Fujiwara Mitsusada of the 土佐 Tosa sect.
The Tosa sect is one of the traditional Japanese schools of painting. It is derived from the Yamato-e school of the Heian period and was active as a court painter from the Muromachi period (1336-1573) onward. Mainly based on Japanese history and literature, the sect is characterized by delicate brushstrokes and decorative colors. He was the most active painter of the Edo period among them.
The delicate brushwork is characteristic and the silk fabric used around it is austere, elegant and beautiful. The colors have dulled with age, making it even cooler.
There are some scuffs, discoloration, folds and creases due to age, but overall it is in very good condition and can be displayed and enjoyed immediately.
It is painted on silk and is also surrounded by silk. The shaft tip is not resin.
